Yesterday, we attended the Tinker Air Show at the AFB in OKC. Our friends from Tulsa, the Varnells (Brandon, Amanda, Keaton and Gwen) came down for the whole day. It was our first time to attend on base, and my aunt Glenna hooked us up with VIP tickets. And I mean, HOOKED. US. UP. We got super close parking, reserved seating in the shade, free water and food, and an air conditioned room in a hangar nearby, where all we had to do was catch a ride on a golf cart anytime we needed to cool down. Score.
In 100 degree weather (literally), we needed to cool down often. But we ended up only going there for lunch, and a stop through when we left.
We saw some awesome shows; my personal favorite was Tora, Tora, Tora; a reenactment of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. It was surreal to see the Zero fighters swooping in and out, dropping bombs over the airfield. And they actually "dropped" fake bombs too, so you could see the smoke plumes rising off the surface.
Also fun to watch were the Vipers and the Thunderbirds. They both put on a show, although the Thunderbirds definitely beat out the Vipers in noise. We all wore earplugs, but it STILL woke Roman up from a nap, and he's hard to wake! Although, actually I think what woke him was the terrified screams of a little boy about his age at the table next to ours. The little boy had earplugs on too, but it still scared the poor guy.
We had so much fun spending the day with the Varnells and my uncle Don. We don't get to see the Varnells as much as we'd like, but every visit we have with them, we walk away saying how much we love them all! And R and Keaton have a blast every time too, especially now that R is old enough to understand how to play with others.
After the air show, we all went to my dad's to hop in the pool and cool off for a few hours. The kids had a blast, and Roman jumped off the diving board for the first time in his life! Over. And over. And over. This kid has no fear. I have some photos on a water camera that I will add to this post once I get them developed.
Great. Day. One for the books.
Roman running to GiGi.
Brandon, pointing at the show. He's special.
One of the Japanese Zero fighters.
Keaton, apparently about to eat Roman's face! Such a funny photo.
Posing after a water run.
Another Zero fighter.
The baby, hanging out at the show. Probably much cooler than I was!
The obligatory Facebook status update. :)
The boys, checking out a Navy passenger plane.

Roman, horsing around in a Learjet...so this is what BP execs are taking to Cape Cod for the summer...hmm.
Checking out the cockpit.
Standing in line with PaDon to see a cargo plane.
Horsing around in the front of the same Learjet...I want this plane for Christmas!
